Please visit this website for more information about the instrument: Myasthenia Gravis Quality of Life 15 (MG-QOL-15)
Classification
Supplemental: Myasthenia Gravis
Short Description of Instrument
The Myasthenia Gravis-Quality of Life 15-item Scale (MG-QOL-15) and Myasthenia Gravis Quality of Life 15-item Scale - Revised (MG-QoL15r) are brief 15-item disease-specific health-related quality of life (HRQOL) outcome measures designed to assess a patient's daily living, physical function and social and psychological well-being. The 15 items are derived from the larger 60 item Myasthenia Gravis Quality of Life (MG-QOL) and were selected based on treatment responsiveness and reliability. (Burns et al., 2008;Burns et al., 2016)
Comments/Special Instructions
The MG-QOL-15, 15 items are derived from the following categories of the 60-item MG-QOL. (Burns et al., 2008)

Mobility (9 items)

Symptoms (3 items)

General Contentment (1 item)

Emotional Well-being (2-items)

No items were chosen from the Thinking/Fatigue, Family/Social Well-being and Additional Concerns domains.

The MG-QoL15r was developed after a Rasch analysis of the MG-QOL-15 resulting in a 15-item 3-response option (0 = Not at all, 1 = Somewhat, 2 = Very much) (Burns et al., 2016)
Scoring and Psychometric Properties
Scoring: Each item is scored on a scale from 0 to 4 with  0 = Not at all, 1 = A little bit, 2 = Somewhat, 3 = Quite a bit, and 4 = Very much. Total scores range from 0 to 60.  The higher the score, the less impact on quality of life.

Psychometric Properties:
Burns et al. (2008) reported a Cronbach's alpha for the MG-QOL-15 of 0.89 indicating excellent consistency. The MG-QOL has been validated in a 175-participant multicenter validity study (Burns et al., 2011;Burns et al., 2010)
Rationale/Justification
Strengths: The MG-QOL-15 can be quickly and easily administered and interpreted and demonstrates high sensitivity and performance on par with the 60 item MG-QOL. The MG-QOL-15 has been translated into Japanese, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Danish, Persian and Chinese among others.

Weaknesses: Interpretation of responses for each item not intuitive for MG-QOL-15.
